| Objective : The aim of our meta-analysis was to evaluate the performance of microRNA21(miRNA21) for diagnosis of esophageal cancer(EC).Methods : We performed a systematic review of studies published literatureswhich investigated the diagnostic performance of miRNA-21 for the diagnosis of EC. QUADAS-2 was used to evaluate the quality of the study. All analyses about relevant data were accomplished by Meta-DiSc statistical software. The sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood rate(PLR), negative likelihood rate(NLR), and diagnostic odds ratio(DOR) for the diagnosis of EC were pooled using corresponding effects models. Work out the summary receiver operating characteristic(SROC) and the area under curve(AUC).Results Four studies met the inclusion criteria, accumulating 202 esophageal cancerpatients and 124 healthy controls. The overall estimates of miR-21 in detecting EC were as follows: pooled sensitivity, 0.85(95%confidence interval(CI) 0.79–0.89); pooled specificity, 0.65(95% CI0.55–0.73); positive likelihood ratio, 2.31(95% CI: 1.81–2.96); negativelikelihood ratio, 0.26(95% CI: 0.19–0.37); diagnostic odds ratio, 9.12(95% CI: 5.51–15.10).The area under curve for the summary receiver operating characteristic curves was 0.8174.Conclusions: MiRNA-21 might be a novel biomarker for EC diagnosis, could be used for screening and auxiliary diagnosis of EC. |
