| Objective: To quantitively assess the association between GSTT1(glutathione S-transferases T1) polymorphism and the susceptibility to colorectal cancer using meta-analysis.Methods: We searched PubMed 〠EMBASE 〠Cochrane Library 〠Chinese Biomedical Literature Databaseã€Chongqing VIPã€CNKI and Wan fang database to identify relevant literature using meta-analysis. Two reviewers independently screened literature according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, extracted data, and evaluated methodological quality of included studies. Statistical analysis was performed by STATA 11.0 software.Results: We performed a meta-analysis of 46 case-control studies including 16202 cases and 22044 controls. GSTT1 polymorphism was associated with the susceptibility to colorectal cancer [OR=1.21, 95%CI(1.10-1.32)]. When stratifying by the region,subgroup analysis indicated positive association between GSTT1 null genotype and increased risk of colorectal cancer among Asia population[OR=1.14,95%CI(1.06-1.22)]ã€European population[OR=1.35,95%CI(1.14-1.58)]ã€America population[OR=1.29,95%CI(0.96-1.72) and Chinese population[OR=1.18,95%CI(1.07-1.31)] respectively. When stratifying by the ethnicity, we found there was a statistically significant relationship between GSTT1 null genotype and the susceptibility to colorectal cancer among Caucasian descent [OR=1.30, 95%CI(1.13-1.50)] and Asian descent [OR=1.13,95%CI(1.01-1.28)] respectively.Conclusion: GSTT1 polymorphism was associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer. |
