Objective: Hypertension, the progressive cardiovascular syndrome, could be due to variety related factors. That may cause the changes of the functions and structures of the heart and blood vessels. At present, the incidence of hypertension in China, especially young people, is increasing. The purpose of this study is to investigate the prevalence and related risk factors of hypertension in young people of Gansu Province.Methods: A stratified multi-stage randomized cross-sectional survey was conducted. The young people was defined from 18 to 44 years old. A total of 13085 people were investigated from 2013 to 2014 in 14 prefecture-level cities and regions of Gansu Province. And at the same time the related risk factors including gender, urban and rural, age, body mass index, smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise, and salt intake as well as other risk factors were gathered and analyzed using the questionnaires. The physical examination was also conducted. SPSS statistics 20.0 software was used for statistical analysis.Results: 1.There were total of 3224 people with high normal blood pressure at the age of 18 to 44 year old on this study in Gansu Province. The relevance was 24.63%. There were 1949 patients with hypertension and the crude prevalence rate was 14.91%. The standardized prevalence rate of was 14.41%. The prevalence of male was 15.70% and the female prevalence rate was 13.77%. The urban prevalence rate of hypertension was 15.64% and the rural prevalence rate was 14.10%. 2. The logistic multivariate analysis showed that age, gender, body mass index, smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise, and salt intake and other factors were correlated factors of hypertension among young people aged 18 to 44 years old in Gansu Province. The male, city, overweight and obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption, lack of exercise and heavy salt intake were risk factors.Conclusion: The prevalence of hypertension among young people in Gansu Province was significantly increased. The major risk factors of hypertension in Gansu Province are overweight and obesity, as well as the bad living habits in young people, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, lack of exercise and high salt intake. Therefore, it is important that we should take action to learn more healthy life style to prevent and control the hypertension in the young people.
