| Purpose:To explore the clinical effects, cosmetic results and quality of life in early-stage breast cancer patients after nipple-areola sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction by prosthesis implantation. Methods:Collected 15 early breast cancer patients who experienced nipple-areola sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction by prosthesis implantation from July 2009 to July 2014 as the observation group(group NSM). The patients who received breast conserving surgery(group BCS) and modified radical mastectomy(group MRM) were matched with a ratio of 2:2:1 with group NSM by age at diagnosis, axillary lymph node status, sexual hormone receptor status, tumor size and Her-2/neu expression for retrospective analysis. Statistic data on the local recurrence rate, metastasis rate, survival rate, cosmetic results and quality of life were compared between the three groups. Results:The median time of follow-up was 36 month(range 6 to 62 month). There was no significant difference between three groups in local recurrence rate, metastasis rate and survival rate(p>0.05).The satisfaction rates of postoperative appearance were 86.7%(13/15) and 90%(27/30) in group NSM and group BCS, separately. There was no significant difference between these two groups(p>0.05), but they were both better than group MRM (0) (p<0.05). The scores of quality of life were 105.93±11.13,102.77±8.57,97.23±8.05 in group NSM, group BCS, and group MRM, separately. There was significant difference between these three groups(p<0.05). Further comparison found that there was no significant difference between group NSM and group BCS(p>0.05), but they were both better than group MRM (p<0.05)Conclusion:Nipple-areola sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction by prosthesis implantation is an effective treatment to early-stage breast cancer patients, with acceptable aesthetic results and good quality of life. |
