Objective: To assess whether occult hepatitis B virus infection(OBI)can increase the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods: Literatures about OBI and HCC in relevant databases :Medline, Web of science, Web of knowledge, Cochrane library,Embase,Biomed Central, Wanfang Data,VIP,Chinese Biomedical Literature and China National Knowledge Internet were searched by two independent reviewers respectively. The endline is April 14 th, 2015. Prospective cohort study or case-control study about OBI and HCC were screened out by inclusive and exclusive criteria. Quality of the included literature was evaluated and data were extracted. Review Manager 5.3 software was used for Meta analysis. Results: Six researches were screened out in this study finally, including five retrospective studies and one prospective study.Five retrospective studies of 1 764 patients were included in our study.Meta-analysis results indicated that OBI can increase the risk of HCC(OR=9.31,95%CI=7.18 to 12.05,P<0.001, heterogeneity(X2 = 5.61,df = 4(P = 0. 23); I2 = 29%).Conclusion: OBI can increase the risk of HCC, which is of clinical guiding significance.
