| Bleeding from gastroesophageal varices(GOV) is one of the most serious complications of liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension, with a mortality up to 43.5%. Gastroesophageal varices are present in approximately 50% of patients with cirrhosis, variceal hemorrhage occurs at a yearly rate of 5%~15%, the management of gastroesophageal varices is very important. As the management of GOV has improved over the last decade, the incidence and mortality rates of GOV bleeding have decreased. This review summarized the current management of variceal hemorrhage. |
