Objective To investigate the prevalence of prehypertension, and to study the Association of Pre-hypertension and physical activity duration in chongqing young population. Methods An investigation with four phases, stratified random sampling method was carried out in a Chongqing young population(age 15 to 44 years old). The selected populations were asked to take questionnaires and physical examination. The association between Prehypertension and physical activity duration was analyzed.Results The prevalence of prehypertension was 45.7%. The prevalence rate of prehypertension in men and women was 54.7% and 36.6% respectively. Age, smoking, drinking, family history, BMI, body fat ratio, waist circumference(WC),education background, the duration of moderate-intensity physical activities and sedentary behavior were associated with prehypertension. Individuals who performed moderate-intensity physical activities between 0.5- 3.5h, had a lower prevalence rate of prehypertension. Similarly, individuals having sedentary behavior more than 5h, also had a low prevalence rate.Conclusion There is a higher prevalence rate of prehypertension for young population in Chongqing who perform moderate-intensity physical activities less than 0.5h or more than 3.5h or sedentary behavior less than 5h.
