A Study On Translation Tactics Of Dialogue In Chinese Drama Based On Functional Equivalence Theory

Translation is defined as a cross-cultural communication. It is a remindercreature of people’s communication and knowledge of different cultures ofcommunication in global information age. Drama is a unique form of culture.Chinese drama has a long history, the various kinds occupied an important role inAsia even the world drama history. Language in drama is complex but rich incontent, it has unique characteristic, and has a complementary relationship withculture and translation. The conversation in theater occupies the major space. Dramatranslation has the unique value in culture and translation as an important part ofliterature translation. Because of the cultural and duality, the theater translationusually service to the target language readers or audiences. As Nida proposed thatfunctional equivalence theory aim s to translate the meaning of the original language,spirit and culture connotation exactly, and lead the target language readers have thesame feeling and translation. Various pre-researches show that the functionalequivalence theory is useful in theater translation. This paper takes the Chinesedrama dialogue translation as the key, with the theory of functional equivalence, inthe perspective of functional equivalence, combining related theory or principles tothe analysis of the Chinese drama of conversation translation. It aims to express therich cultural connotation and special beauty of language to the target language readerand audiences by study the method of Chinese theater translation. This paper fallsinto four parts, they are Introduction, Literature Review, Examples Analysis andConclusion. In the step of example analysis, comparative analysis on the specificfactors in drama conversation translation in the famous Teahouse by Functional Equivalence theory will be given, and get some summery of translation strategy ineach. This paper will be a deeper research in theater culture translation andfunctional equivalence theory, and a new try and study in the theory of dramaconversation translation which is relatively weak now.
