This paper will take how the western culture effect Chinese local Chronicles compilation inthe late Qing dynasty and the Republic of China period as the research object, and expounding theWestern effect on chorography evolution, and Detail summarize the change of chorography, suchas in function, compiling principle, guiding ideology, content and the specific codification methodthrough historical data assembly and comparing the research methods, and by using the evolutionand development of local Chronicles as background. In addition setting up a separate chapter toexplore how the western learning influence local volunteers in order to know the chorographyevolution in the late Qing dynasty roundly. The conclusion is: in the late Qing dynasty and theRepublic of China period, under the internal and external fierce collision social background, thereis no fundamental change about chorography, but there are many subtle changes, such as function,compiling principle, guiding ideology, content and the specific codification method.After the first chapter introduction, the paper divides four chapters to discuss the influencethat the western learning takes on the Chinese chorography.The introduction mainly introduces the background and significance of topic research, reviewof existing research results, and the innovation and the characteristic of the paper.The first chapter: western learning. Including the first quarter: the reason of western culturewidely spread and development; the second quarter: the way of how western culture influenceChinese chorography; The third quarter: introduction of the development of yearbook in china.This chapter mainly take the way to grasp the propagation in the late Qing dynasty and the republicof China period, and focus on western learning’s effects on Chinese society, education andespecially history through the carrier of the newspapers, books, etc, which affect the evolution ofChinese local Chronicles. The second chapter: the transformation of the western culture to traditional local Chronicles.The first quarter: western revision influence on the change of local Chronicles in the function,compiling and the idea. The second quarter, western brings the new changes of chorographycontents. The third quarter, changes in compilation style of Chinese local Chronicles. Fourthquarter, changes in chorography specific editorial technique. The local Chronicles function changeshave three aspects: local region, the local culture education research, and social developmentchanges. The changes of the Compiling idea also have three aspects: the scientific idea, historicalevolution, the idea of people history. The new changes on chorography content are divided into thefollowing parts: the new increasing on local records categories, increased social and economiccontent describes, relating content included the people’s livelihood, imperialist powers invasionactivity and the Chinese people’s revolutionary struggle. Local Chronicles compilation stylechanges include two parts: traditional chorography style changes, local innovation and the use ofnew style. Specific compilation technique include: map precision and the application of photos, theapplication of various statistics, writings in the vernacular and the adoption of the new punctuation,and printing method improvement.The third chapter: increasing of the local records. The local recodes as a special chapter can bemore comprehensive understanding the influence of western learning on local Chronicles. The firstquarter,the definition of local recodes. The second quarter: the origin, content and function oflocal records. The origin of local records include: the spreading of western rural education, theintroduction and absorption of western people’s "nation" and "national" thinking, intellectuals’reflection about western culture under the national crisis and the deepening of national crisis.About the Local records’ function, the author thinks that the most important purpose of the localrecords compilation is to develop the children’s thought about the loving of township and patrioticconsciousness in late Qing dynasty and republic of China period. So western influence localrecords, and at the same time compiled local records provides conditions and media for thetransmission of western learning more widely and more commonly.The fourth chapter is conclusion. Summarizing the paper, and making the instruction of thewestern culture influence on traditional Chinese chorography in late Qing dynasty and republic ofChina period. Although there is no fundamental change radically about chorography, there are many subtle changes, such as in function, compiling principle, guiding ideology, content and thespecific codification method in the late Qing dynasty and the Republic of China period. Thesechanges present different development and change from which are unlike the past, and with thechorography itself evolution, the influence from western culture becoming the carrier to helpwestern culture spread more widely, promote the process and influence of introduction of westernculture...
