A Study On The C-E Translation Of Political Terms With Chinese Characteristics From The Perspective Of Relevance Translation Theory

With the unprecedented development of Chinese economy, politics, culture andmarvelous improvement of national power and international status, China has beenplaying an increasingly important role in the international affairs and becoming thefocus of the international society, attracting a great deal of attention from more andmore foreigners who have been craving to have a better knowledge about thedevelopment and the present condition of China. Since the reform and opening up,China’s foreign exchanges have been considerably expanded and China has beenplaying an increasingly important role in the political and economic life all over theworld.The annual Report on the Work of Government（RWG）is the most authoritativedocument which summarizes the new achievements in the cause of building socialismwith Chinese characteristics the past year and outlines China’s basic and fundamentalstate policies for next year, exerting a great and profound significance on thedevelopment of Party and national enterprises. As it concentrates on China’s latestconditions and future development of society, economy and culture, it provides theoutside world with an effective way to have a better understanding of China’s nationalconditions. Therefore, the translation of the Report on the Work of Government has adirect and profound influence on the understanding of the target language readers andthe international image of China. Therefore, this thesis applies Relevance TranslationTheory as the theoretical framework to analyze and research the translation of thepolitical terms with Chinese characteristics in the Reports on the Work of Governmentfrom2010to2013，aiming at discovering the optimal relevance between sourcelanguage and target language and the optimal translation strategies and skills,effectively conveying the implied and intended cultural information and facilitatingcommunication and providing a new perspective for the research on the translation ofthe political terms with Chinese characteristics in the Report on the Work ofGovernment.In conclusion, based on Relevance Translation Theory, by the thorough analysis on the political terms with Chinese characteristics in the Report on the Work ofGovernment from2010to2013and the effective translation approaches, the author ofthis thesis proves that Relevance Theory and Relevance Translation Theory areperfect for the research on the political terms with Chinese characteristics in theReport on the Work of Government.
