Korean War novels, as the literary products of a specific era, wereborn with the Korean War. These novels are created by the writerstremendously, to meet the needs of the war, and also carry out the policiesof our party, which shows the guidance of the power and ideology of ourcountry, and realistic fighting spirit of the intellectuals. However, the greattendency of literary creation did not attract enough attention in the historyof literature. By collecting and reviewing works published by all kinds ofnewspapers, magazines and publishing houses of the1950s and1960s,some Korean War novels forgotten by the world can be found, amongwhich are plenty of works with high quality, presenting the real beauty ofhumanity and considerations about the politics and literature, sketch styleworks with distinctive political ideology, and discussing and callingarticles about the literary creation of the Korean War literature. This thesisaims to analyzing the richness and complexity of the Korean War novelsfrom the perspective of social history, imaging typology and narratology. Itcan be divided into three chapters as follows:In the first chapter, the historical background and the internationalenvironment of the Korean War novels are briefly analyzed, from theviewpoint of the republic literature. A large number of original works areinvestigated and the ecology of this kind of novel is recovered. In addition,the profound impact of the literary mobilization and ideologicalremoulding, on the writing mentality and motivation of the writers, isstudied in connection with the context of the literary history. Overall,obvious political signs exist in the great tendency of literary creation.Moreover, the Korean War novels can becategorized into long, medium,short novels with different characteristics, according to their length. From adissemination form point of view, novels and movies coexist. Thedifference from the original works and impact brought by the revisedmovies are demonstrated.In the second chapter, characters in the Korean War novels areprominently analyzed. The images of the Chinese People’s volunteers, theKorean people and the enemies are studied from the perspective of the matology, image typology and narratology. Also, the profound culturalconnotation behind the character images is revealed.The third chapter: Study unusual life experience under gunfire.There are stories, not only about love under pressure of political but alsohuman touch in common life, in the Korean War novel. Seeing throughthe analysis of novels, we can find out how writers excavate humanity andcast complex human emotions to show real common unflinching heroesand ordinary cowardly persons in the war. These unflinching heroes andcowardly persons enrich the novel, reveal conflicts between war, societyand individuals and expose the trauma caused by the war.
