With the development of humanistic psychology, the focus of the foreign languageteaching and research shifts from how to teach to how to learn. Foreign language expertsand educators pay much more attention to the learners’ emotional problems. As animportant emotional factor foreign language anxiety is becoming one of the researchhotpots of the foreign language teaching and research. Lots of studies indicate that,foreign language anxiety is widely spread among college students and directly related tothe foreign language learners’ learning behavior and learning effect.Based on findings from relevant studies, this paper aims at revealing a global outlookof college students’ foreign language anxiety and providing the correlation betweenforeign language anxiety and academic achievement. The survey is made to arandomly-selected subject sample of148students from Nanjing University ofAeronautics and Astronautics with following instruments: Foreign Language ClassroomAnxiety Scale, Foreign Language Academic Achievement.The results indicate that, there is a Significant negative relevance between the foreignlanguage anxiety and foreign language achievement and there is no Significant differencebetween the gender differences and foreign language achievement.Based on the empirical investigation, some implications on foreign language teachingare provided and some directions for further study are proposed.
