| Human life is most precious and is the unique being of what is notand not what it is. Man is wizard of universe and is the essence ofnatural birth. With the realization of the value of life, barren naturepresents its wonders with vitality. Unfortunately, mankind has not yetreally known himself and the essence of life. Life became more fragileand hard for mankind to bear, especially so with the development ofmodern industrial society. It is essential to solve the issue of life byre-examining life and value of life. This study attempts to systematizethe theories of value of life in China and in West, in order to elaboratephilosophical implication of life and value of life from metaphysicalperspective on the one hand, and to build social ethical culture of lovinglife on the other hand, so that one can form one’s individual artistic life.This thesis is composed of five parts as follows：The first part lays out the general content of this thesis, introducesthe purpose and method of this research, and sorts out the up-to-dateresearch done on this topic.The second part traces the origin of the view of life. There are twodifferent approaches to philosophy of life in China and in West that arerich in philosophy of value of life. The former is about unity of heavenand man, focusing on the transformation of life and continues prosperity of living. The latter is about the world of idea, concerning what it is oflife.The third part elaborates life and the value of life. One must love life,cherish life, and revere life. Life as being-there is Being-towards-deathas it is unique, irreversible and transcendental. The value of life in termsof value of self depends on self-improvement and development. Thevalue of life in terms of social value can contribute to the social progressand development. The realization of the value of life enriches humansociety and insures the long lasting of society.The fourth part explores how ethical culture of revering life can bebuilt. With awe, it gives rise to respect. With respect, it produces faith.With faith, it leads to action. Only if one reveres life, can one love lifeand cherish life. One must enter society from one’s study room in orderto pay reverence to life, so that a good social atmosphere can be created,and a social ethical cultural of revering life can be built.The fifth part concerns how to shape one’s artistic life. It isunavoidable that one must go through pain and failure on one’s path torealize value of life. Life and death are complementary to each other.Life is the life of being-towards-death, and death is the death of gloryand fulfillment. Life and death are the two poles of one’s life. Life isglorious and death is liberation. One would not have any regret when one realizes one’s value of life. |
