This report attempts to explain the process of publicity translation and the role oftranslator in publicity translation activities from the perspective of the adaptation theory.To analyze in detail the process of translation, the author adopts the adaptation theoryand draws on his own experience of the translation of foreign publicity materials. Theauthor of the report holds that translation is a process of choice making by the translatorthrough such adaptation methods as addition, replacement, omission and restructuring toachieve the purpose of information exchange in different communication scenarios. Thetranslator is the subject of choice-making, who makes constant language expressionchoices among all the expressions that he or she has. In this report, four most commonlyused adaptation tools including addition, omission, replacement and restructuring andsome specific examples concerning the use of the four adaptation tools are also given tofurther explain how the translator uses these tools to achieve successful adaptation intranslation. The report also points out that the major causes for ineffective translation arefailure in grasping the information, poor understanding of the cultures between differentlanguages and inadequate master of language expressions. Therefore, to promotetranslator’s translation ability, one should focuses on enhancing his ability to graspcommunication information effectively, promote his understanding of different culturesand expand his bank of different expressions of target languages.
