As the competition in Chinese job-hunting market is becoming fiercer and fiercer, employers adopt a variety of recruitment skills to get the best candidate. This translationreport is based on the translation of the book, Interviews Made Easy, which is written byEnglish Charted psychologist, Mark Parkinson. Personnel recruitment skills andjob-hunting skills in this book have profound guiding significance for job-hunters as wellas employers. This report discusses some experiences the author obtained in this translationpractice, in combination with Toury’s theory of translation norms, especially the initialnorms. The report can be divided into four parts. Part One is the task description, whichintroduces the background of this task, characteristics of original text, and the reason whythe author chooses this text; Part Two is the procedure description, including preparationbefore translation, translation process and proofreading after translation; Part Three is thecase analysis. First, it puts forward the translation problem, that is, when the translationshould be inclined to original text, and when to target text. Second, it explains thetheoretical thinking of this problem with two concepts, namely translation adequacy andtranslation accessibility. Third, it discusses what kind of situations should be inclined totranslation adequacy and what to translation acceptability with examples. At last, it makesa tentative conclusion. It’s better to emphasize the translation adequacy when handlingabbreviations, specialized terms and language style, while being apt to translationacceptability when dealing with polysemy, set phrases and sentence structure; Part Foursummarizes this translation practice from the aspects of translation tools and translationstrategies, and points out the limitation of this report as well as some unsettled problems.
