With the rapid development of information technology, various disciplinespenetrate mutually, which promoting the appearance of multicultural society. So doesthe field of painting arts. In1960s, it is the application of various media materials andthe merging of diverse art conceptions that made the boundary among different kinds ofpainting blurred. Hence, comprehensive painting art is the necessity of art development,also, the necessity of social historical development.The application of comprehensive material adds new life to Chinese contemporarypainting arts. Artists use various materials to express their ideology and emotion,constantly create new forms to make them more energetic and artistic appeal. Duringthis process, some artistic phenomena are worthy of reflection. For example, artists paytoo much attention on the application of materials and performance of technique, yetneglect the significance of comprehensive painting contemporary and personalization.Moreover, many works are not concerned with relationships between contemporary andthe spirit or concept of them.This paper focuses on the contemporary issues of comprehensive painting, with themain line of the use of integrated materials in painting and its development. Authorexplores the following questions from the perspective of practice and theory. What isthe social background promoting contemporary painting to be comprehensive one?What kinds of energy and inspiration do integrated materials bring to traditionalpainting? What’s the main problem of contemporary comprehensive painting? How tomake comprehensive painting contemporary? Though the practice and exploration ofcomprehensive materials in painting, and the application of it in contemporary painting,the author has her own idea and understanding, and proposes the new expectation on thecomprehensive painting in the future.This paper consists of four parts. In the first part, it introduces the reasons whyauthor selects this topic and the significance of this study. In the second part, at thebeginning of this part, the concept of comprehensive painting is defined, and it refers tothe social background of contemporary painting turning into comprehensive one. Then,it discusses respectively the development of eastern and western comprehensivematerial application in contemporary painting and the analysis of representatives’ works.Given this, it concludes that comprehensive materials add new life to contemporary painting. At the same time, this paper puts forward the contemporary problem ofcomprehensive painting and personal viewpoints by the investigation and analysis of artpractice. In the third part, it mainly shows the practice and exploration of author’s usecomprehensive material in painting and what she has got from her experience. In thefourth part, this paper analyzes the comprehensive material application in contemporarypaining, performance technique and the importance of artistic concept. In addition, theauthor comes forward new expectation and personal envision on the development ofcomprehensive painting art in the future.
