Chronic inscription on ancient ceramics is of significance in determining theproduction date of ceramics, which is divided into three categories: reign seal,Ganziseal and special seal inscribing dynasty instead of emperor’s reign. Among thesethree kinds, Ganzi seal can date a ware’s time most precisely. Such a ware with aconcrete Ganzi seal can be used as a standardized ware. The paper discusses thesestandardized wares ranging from the Han dynasty to the Qing dynasty, without takingZisha wares (black or red pottery) into account, which are from unearthed wares orpreserved ones from museums.The paper can be divided into four chapters: the first one about prelude, thesecond one about Ganzi seal and ancient ceramics, the third one about the applicationof Ganzi seal in researching ancient wares, and the fourth one about conclusion.The contents this paper contains are as follows.Collection and assessment of targets at home and abroad is done, and combed,and then these papers compare and classify these research subjects and finally draw aconclusion. Ganzi is deeply looked into in the aspects of definition, categories, theway to inscribe Ganzi, the dating, the evolution, and causes of its emergence. Basedon the vase of “Dingtai the fourth year DingNao”and the dish with blue and redunderglaze dated “Kangxi XinhaiZhonghetang made”, the research goes deeper, andmakes a chronic sum of Ganzi wares, which is beneficial to future studies.
