As the contemporary critical theory, lesbian feminist is one of the hot topics all around theworld. In Chinese Mainland, since the year of1990s, literatures about the lesbians is verypopular, also the criticism articles of lesbian feminist are gradually increasing. However, most of the articles pay attention on the historical aspect, or on the specific works andwriters, many other aspects about lesbian feminist had been neglected. So far, criticismarticles that mainly study on male figures in Chinese Mainland lesbian literatures are stillnot many, and most of them concentrate on the male figures in specific writers’ works. Therefore, Chinese Mainland lesbian literatures still need to be studied more deeply andcomprehensively. This paper mainly study on seven representative Chinese Mainland novels which had beenpublished since the year of1990s. By analyzing the structures and images in those novels,it aims at presenting lesbians’ attitude to male in the real world, and showing how thosenovels try to establish the rationality, superiority and practical significance of the lesbians’existence by shaping male figures. The paper is divided into five parts:The introduction part broadly introduces the start of the lesbian literature at first, andsummaries the different relationship between western feminist and lesbian feminist indifferent periods, it mainly includes three periods: running-in period, honeymoon period, rejection period and division period. Then, this part summaries the historical developmentof Chinese Mainland lesbian feminist and points the shortage in the field of lesbian feministcriticism at present. The first part firstly confirms the criterion to select the lesbian literature novels in thisthesis, and introduce contents of the seven representative Chinese Mainland literaturenovels. Then this part demonstrates the basis of classifying the male figures in these sevennovels, and points that the male figures are classified into three types: positive male figures, passive male figures and father figures. The second, third and fourth parts adopt lesbian feminist theory and other literary criticalmethods to analyze three types of male figures in details, and summary the purposes towrite these male figures: writing positive male figures due to reflecting the ideal liveenvironment of lesbian; writing passive male figures due to presenting the reduction ofmale chauvinism and heterosexual hegemony; writing father figures due to indicating theflaw and the compromise of patriarchy. The fifth part mainly analyzes the defects of the male figures in these seven novels.According to the new masculism theory, the defects include singularity of character types, superficialness of emotion expression, and overemphasis of male chauvinism andpatriarchy. The epilogue part mainly reflects the defects of this thesis on collecting materials andstudying novels, and provides some references to the next research scholars.
