A Study On Theravada Loanwords In Dehong Dai Language

Abstract/Summary:
Each of thelavada and Dai belongs to different language families. The former,which is employed by Magadhi is one of the Ancient India’s East country,is a partof Indo-European, while the latter belongs to Dai branch in Sino-Tibetan family.Based on my fieldwork in the region of Dehong in Yunnan Province about thelavadaloanwords in Dai, I have made a comparative study between Dai and thelavadaloanwords employing comparative methods. It is beneficial to deeply recognize theimportance of words-borrowing according to the influence of thelavada loanwords onDai.This whole article is compromised of five parts. Firstly, I will introducecomprehensive information about thelavada, and literature reviews铨research methodsabout study subject in this article.The second chapter is a description of history and culture about Dehong DaiNationality, focusing on transcriptions between thelavada language and Dehong Dai.Chapter3is the main part of this article, concerning to loanwords’ formation andcharacters in Dai. This chapter is divided into two parts as thelavada loanwords’formation types and semantic analyses of these words.Impacts of Dehong thelavada loanwords on Dehong Dai are discussed inChapter4. Also this chapter consists of four sections: the first one presents theexpanding effect of thelavada loanwords on Dehong Dai’s lexical system; the secondsection introduces the fact that loanwords in Dai have deepened the differentiationbetween spoken language and written language, and comparing Dehong thelavadaloanwords with loanwords from Xishuangbanna thelavada pertains to the thirdsection.The summary of this whole article leaves to the last part.
