With the booming development of society and network technology, Internet hasbecome an indispensable part of people’s lives. The growth of the network hasincredible influences on all aspects of our lives, especially on language. The netspeakhas become the focus of recent study. As a kind of stylistics, it is different fromface-to-face communication. In particular, as the typical and representative branch ofnetspeak, the network chat language changes with the fastest speed. Hence, thediscussion on the network chat language is of great importance for research ofnetspeak.The English and Chinese chat language has many similarities as well as manydifferences. This thesis analyzes the English and Chinese chat language at the lexicallevel, which can avoid the network communication barriers furthest, and moreintuitively understand the social culture and thinking pattern of the westerners.Based on the present comparative study of the two kinds of network chatlanguage, it can be concluded that both of the two kinds of network chat languagedevelop rapidly, and the Chinese network chat language is influenced by English.Meanwhile, Chinese network chat language is also vigorous. Due to differences ofcharacter, culture and thinking pattern, two kinds of chat languages present manydifferences on word formation. Both Chinese and foreigners are concerned with theproblem of standardization and have made great efforts in research both theoreticallyand practically. The network has turned the world into a big village. Network chatlanguage will gradually lead to bilingual or even multilingual phenomenon.
