With the development of cultural diversity, movies and television dramas revealingcontemporary military life become keenly favored by the audience. The once “perfect” figureoccurring in dramas gradually walks down from the unattainable altar and appears more humane andpopular. As one of the indispensable characters in movies and television dramas featuring military life, the image of “military spouse” is seen frequently, especially in several TV series in2012. In these TVseries, military spouse becomes their object of narration, which reflects the realistic meaning ofmilitary spouse image research to a larger degree.Current academic research on military spouse’s image in movies and television dramas is limitedto a partial and fragmentary level, and there’s a lack of a complete and comprehensive analysis. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a type analysis of figures in this kind of movies and televisiondramas. This thesis takes military spouse image in contemporary military dramas as its research object, analyzing it both vertically and horizontally. Through a review of military spouse image’s historicalconstruction, the thesis first presents military spouse image’s changes from a traditional one to thecontemporary with a timeline. And based on this, the thesis focuses on the analysis of military spouseimages constructed in military dramas in the new period. The thesis adopts the method of textualanalysis and takes several military dramas in the new period, like Grow, the Full Moon, All Corners ofthe Country, as its research object. It initiates from the perspective of feminism and points out that themilitary spouse image in the new period achieves a balance between “sacrifice” and “self-value”compared with the traditional military spouse image which is often described as “silent Other” orcharacters who blindly break the constraints of traditional values. Thus, there occurs the core point ofthe thesis–in dealing with the traditional feminine values, military spouse image in the new periodhas formed a characterization path of “deconstruction–collapse–reconstruction–return”.
