The present research, based on the author’s biography translation practice ofMiss Luella Miner’s Two Heroes of Cathay, and in light of Hans J. Vermeer’s Skopostheory, proceeds to make an exploration and study on the translation strategies andmethods of biographical works. The biographical text integrates the features ofhistoricity and literariness. By comparing the English and Chinese biography text fromlinguistic level, cultural dimension and the reader’s acceptability, the paper finds thatthe translation of a biographical works should be placed in the background of culturevalue of target language, and take reader’s acceptability into consideration. Thetranslator should not only be faithful to the original text, at the same time the translatorneeds to create, or even rewrite during translation. |
