After the MayFourth Movement, the rise of the New Culture Movement led Chinese society to anardent concern over “human existence", providing the soil for existentialism to spreadin China. After entering the new era, the modern western philosophical thought beganto spread throughout China, and also existentialism set off a boom in Chinese literary.The concern over "human existence" of existentialism just agreed with the dominanttrend in Chinese society, and then a series of writers who concerned over such issuesappeared, Liu Zhenyun being one of the outstanding representatives. A profoundspeculation of the freedom and existence of human runs through Liu Zhenyun’snovels.
