The calligraphy art of the tang dynasty is the second peak during the period ofChinese calligraphy art development. This peak lasts for290years which starts from A.D.618to A.D.907. During this period, calligraphers and book historians come out in succession.Zhang huaiguan, actives in KaiYuan to Qian yuan of the tang dynasty, is undoubtedly one ofthe most famous book historians. He has not only complete book theory system, but alsomany works, such as the book breaks, The Essay of character, Calligraphy Conference, theJudgment of Character, the Essay about Six Forms of character, The Record of two Wang andso on. Compared with Sun Guoting and liu Xizai, the research on ZhangHuai guan booktheory is relatively insufficient at home and abroad, especially from the philosophical point ofview on Taoism, so it is necessary to study Zhang Huaiguan book theory from Taoismviewpoint.Zhang Huaiguan has put forward the famous calligraphy evaluation system of superb、wonderful、good in the book breaks. Most of the researchers have had research on the systemanalysis, while there aren’t many analyses to interpret the evaluation system from the deepphilosophical basis. For this reason, this paper tents to study Zhang Huaiguan’s book theoryfrom this perspective. Zhang Huaiguan thought calligraphy coincides with the tao, tao is theontology of calligraphy.His book theory about the" Explore its ultimate source, there is nodifferent from tao”"the tao is a natural existence, nothing can limit it"" the purpose ofCalligraphy is to coincide with the tao”, we can see that the standard to evaluate thecalligraphic works is to see whether compliant with the "tao". Calligraphy shall be inconformity with the “tao”, while tao is natural, its inaction means don’t take rash action. Sothe calligraphy also should use the inaction to embody nature. The evaluation standard exists,so how to create works under this standard? Zhang Huaiguan has put forward “Calligraphylearning should not follow the example of the ancient, but study from the nature"," Thecalligraphy should reflect and imitate nature by means of inaction In the mental state, should”mark exists in the dust soil, but mind flies out of the sky", namely drop trace with dust, alongwith things appropriate, live in this world without delay, not be tired of earth, spirit rises up tofree and unfettered Spaces, heart contract not to say. Only in this way can create wonderfulworks.
