This article combines work analysis and performance characteristics research to analyze the Clarke’s "viola and piano sonata".The introduction of the thesis makes a brief introduction of Rebecca Clarke and her "viola and piano sonata". The first chapter briefly describes the Clarke’s life and contribution to music, also the story behind her creation of "viola and piano sonata". The second, third and fourth chapters are based on the writer’s personal research and performing experience of the work to analyze the first, second and third movements of this piece further respectively:work analysis, music understanding and music processing. The fourth chapter extracts the most representative technical difficulties for further analysis. Final conclusion is the brief summary of the status and influence of Clarke’s viola and piano sonata.
