The Solutions To The Sleeping Beauty Problem And Its Belief Reasonability Consideration

Sleeping beauty problem is the issue of the self-belief location, which indicates that a subject in a certain period can have the located belief related to himself, and in the reasoning process of solving the belief problem, it is also one of the great puzzles on how to connect the indexical information with non-indexical information. Through the researches on the sleeping beauty problem and the current dominant debates of it, the essence of sleeping beauty is tried to be found with the updated breakthrough method of this issue, and three aspects of it will be discussed. The reasonable analysis will be made by further breakthrough on the problems of belief rationality from these aspects of the premise information reliability, information context and logical reasoning method. According to these, it is solved the problem on how to conduct the reasoning on the belief subject in rationality. The three parts of this article is divided as follows:In the first part, the different views are introduced on the basis of the statement on the basic background of sleeping beauty problem, and the reasonable opinion analysis among the debate parties is indicated one by one. The sleeping beauty problem is about ’imperfect memory’in the literature of game theory. And there are three versions of it. Currently, the heated debates on this problem are about the1/3view promoted by Adam Elga and the1/2view promoted by David Lewis. Here it firstly introduces the background of sleeping beauty problem; and then, it shows the views of both debating parties and the conflict focus and some reasons; finally, it makes the rationality analysis of these views.In the second part, Nick Bostrom tries to propose a new hybrid model, which intends to make up the shortcomings of both parties in criticizing1/3view and1/2view separately. He firstly criticizes the contents of David Lewis’and others’opinions; and then, he introduces the content of hybrid model and his own verification of it; finally, the essence of the sleeping beauty problem is further recognized, and has the rationality analysis of the solution approach of hybrid model. It is also pointed out what is the point in his hybrid model, and his reasoning method will be questioned in the unreasonable cases.In the third part, it is about the dialectic thoughts on how to establish the reasonable faith in sleeping beauty problem. Although Nick Bostrom uses the hybrid model in intending to solve the dilemma, his hybrid model could not be perfect and reasonable in some sense. Therefore, the premise information reliability, information context and logistics method of reasoning will be considered separately.
