Based on the Studies on Su shih in English-Speaking World, the dissertation aims tocomb and summarize the general research scope and content, grasping the researchfeatures as a whole; Analyse the most representative translation of Sushih and comparedifferent translations from the perspective of Media-translatology, exploring the creativetreason and cultural misreading in the process of two kinds of language transformation;In-depth analysis of the representative sinologists’ monographs in the English-SpeakingWorld, exploring the great significance of their unique research methods and perspectivesto the domestic scholars.In the preface, the author generalizes the attention having been paid to the research onSu shih in English-Speaking world in the domestic academia at present, and points out thedeficiency and the unique value of this thesis. The first chapter treats the origin of Sushih’sresearch in English-speaking World from two aspects: domestic and abroad, and thencombs the general status of Su shih studies in English-speaking World from four aspects:biography, translation, work study, comprehensive study. The second chapter analyzes therepresentative translation of Su shih’s works——the content、stylistic rules and layout aswell as features of the translation by Burton Watson, and subsequently compare thetranslation by Burton Watson, Ling Yutang, Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang, and Xuzhongjie, probing into the translation strategies, discussing the deformation, distortion andloss of cultural image in the process transmission, analyzing its causes and offeringresolution strategies。 finally treat the influence literary translations have on thetranslator’s creation briefly. The last chapter analyzes the representative monographs onSushih in English-speaking world in details, respectively taking James Liu(Major Lyricistof the Northern Sung), Shuen-fu Lin (The Transformation of the Chinese LyricalTradition:Chiang K uei and Southern Sung Tz u Poetry), Kang-I Sun Chang(TheEvolution of Chinese Tz u Poetry:from Late T ang to Northern Sung)and Ronald C Egan(Word, Image and Deed in the Life of Su Shi)for example. Through the mostrepresentative case study,The chapter aims to reveal the key points, perspectives, and methods of the scholars’ studies in English-Speaking world. The peroration summarizesthe features of the Studies on Su shih in English-Speaking World, thus reflecting ourselvesand attain enlightenment.
