Influenced by the research method of comparative literature, the Chinese Lyric Tradition, which emerged in the overseas Chinese scholars' area in the 1950s or 1960s and then spread to Taiwan and Hong Kong, is a research orientation aiming to reinterpret Chinese classical literature from the overall level of literature. For the beneficial inspiration of this theory to "modern transformation of Chinese ancient literary theory" in terms of its theoretical methods,achievements and existential context and so on, this paper aims to find out interpretation and construction in different stages by tracing its diachronic development. From the perspective of diachronic study, the paper is divided into four chapters to discuss the four crucial stages of Chinese Lyric Tradition. In the first chapter, the theoretical source of the research in the early 20th century is sorted out; in the second chapter, the research's comparative poetics context is shown by analyzing the case of Shih-hsiang Chen ; in the third chapter, the method of "Ontology" used to realize the "modern transformation" is revealed by dissecting Yu-kung Kao' Lyric Aesthetics, which synthesizes the merits of linguistics, aesthetic psychology and the consciousness of cultural history; In the fourth chapter, the reception of this theory in Taiwan and its impact on literature and art's creation is focused on. By studying the process of the theory's construction, this paper attempts to expose the cultural context, the effects as a paragon and the theoretical significance of Chinese Lyric Tradition.
