| In the era of an extreme expansion of the consumer society, film has become one ofthe ways to deal with pressure in daily consumption culture. The reason why film has sucha wide range of diffusion and a good accessibility to audience is that as the newest eighthform of art, film has become a kind of popular language. And the basic language systemwhich constitutes film is montage. Since the date of the birth of the proper noun“montage”, film theorists, film critics and scholars and even film lovers have alldeveloped great interest in it. With the unceasing development of film art, the re-definitionof montage language has become more and more frequently, and the way of application ofthe language has become more various and flexible. From a single type of montage langueconstruction to a multi-level structure with rich rhythm, montage langue always shows itslinguistic attraction in different types of films.The paper focuses on the different ways of shot cutting and connecting in the film“Fleeting Static Language”, and discusses about some of the film languageforms—montage, fixed shot cutting and connecting and moving shot cutting andconnecting, and their different effects. Thus, the paper analyzes the influence of shotcutting and connecting on the rhythm of the film. The overall rhythm of the film iscomposed by the rhythms of different sections, which are coordinated and unified with thefilm’s overall rhythm. The film “Fleeting Static Language” uses many ways of shot cuttingand connecting, which forms different rhythms in different montage sections. However, allthese rhythms are coordinated with the film’s overall rhythm. By illustrating differentclassic film plots, the paper re-interprets the definition and classification of montage,analyzes the related sections in the film “Fleeting Static Language”, and highlights thestyle of the way to cut and connect shots of the film. And then shot cutting and connecting,film montage and film rhythm are connected logically. |
