A number of invaluable silk manuscripts were discovered in the3rd tomb of Chang sha Ma wang dui in1973. And in those books, the two versions of Lao Tzu,lost ancient book Jingfa, Shi Dajing, Cheng, Dao yuan and other books were most valuable. These silk manuscripts were discovered again also brough out some problems when they filled a gap which has hitherto existed in Chinese academic history."Holding the ancient Tao to direct the things of thepresent day" in the Current Edition of Lao Tzu Chapter14,but in the two versions of Lao Tzu it was described as "Holdingthe present Tao to direct the things of the ancient day"."Ancient" and "present",the change of one word, can bring the difference between heaven and earth. Tradition has already taken shape, we couldn’t have blind faith in the silk manuscripts; even "holding the present Tao" have got a few principles in the interpretation process of history. Naturally, we should treated history as such alive because it possessed mental energy. So what do we do with the discrepancy in "ancient" and "present"? Put it in the whole philosophical thought system of Lao Tzu. Tidied up the annotations, and consulted other philosophies of Confucius,Chuang Tzu,Hsun Tzu,Han Feizi. Then we draw the conclusion "it needs compromise to deal with real-world situations ". And only thus can meet the intent of Lao Tzu. Nor is there had a bias towards present, or any marked emphasis on the ancient. De was the only valuable thing, and Lao Tzu turn "De" into "Xuan De". Now to respond "the confrontation of the ancient and the present" by expounded and proved this philosophical thinkings.
