Translation Report On The Nature Of Gothic From The Perspective Of Deconstruction Theory

In the increasingly close cultural communication, literary works act as a critical medium. The translation of literary works is consequently of great importance. The theory of deconstruction has its effectiveness in the guidance of translation studies. This report is based on the translation task entrusted by Jinan Besesun Translation Company. The source text is "The Nature of Gothic", one chapter of The Stone of Venice written by John Ruskin. The report is a brief study based on the translation of "The Nature of Gothic" from the perspective of the deconstruction theory. In the translation process, difficulties are caused by the language difference and extensive knowledge in architecture, religion, sculpture, history, painting and so on. After classified, the cases are analyzed in linguistic and non-linguistic aspects. With the help of the deconstruction theory, the author analyzes typical cases at levels of word, grammar, sentence structure, rhetoric, religious color and architectural term. This report demonstrates how the deconstruction theory is effectively applied in the translation. The author hopes it can promote the development of literary translation and cultural communication.
