In a Language structure, the interactions between argument and predicate is muchand complicated. Among all the related researches, a large scale of studies have beenfocused on influences that the predicate can make to the argument structure. Though, there’re studies of influences from nouns toward other grammatical elements, theargument included, in restrained area of discussions for particular types of nouns, rarely has a systematic study on the topic been presented. The objective of research in this thesis is the characters of nouns that caninfluence predicate, the effected aspects of predicate, and the concrete influencesargument makes to predicate. It studies the previous studies though only related, andsorts out into two researching directions, one concerning with the influences argumentmakes to the single predicate verbs, the other concerning with influences to thecomplex predicate structure. Based on them, the thesis aims to find out theirlimitations and some discussing points that need a further study. The thesis concludesthree main researching questions: Firstly, what is the cognitive schema of theinfluences argument makes to predicate? Secondly, what aspects of argument caninfluence the predicate structure? And thirdly, what aspects of the predicate structureare most easily influenced by the argument? Regarding these, the thesis utilizescognitive basis and theories to make comprehensive and scientific explanations, suchas noun and verb schema, configurational structure, cognitive domain, and figure andground theory. In chapter four, the thesis analyzes plexity, boundedness, dividedness, and agentivity of nouns, with illustrations and language phenomena, concluding thatthe aspect, voice, agreement and predicate transitivity are mostly and easily influencedaspects of the predicate, thus answers the three researching questions in paragraph. This thesis holds the principle that language together with cognition are combinedand the result of the thesis has made the first move on the new studying topic. Thoughnot thorough and entirely systematic due to limited researching level and time, thethesis is providing a basic and general schema for further researching on the topic.
