Research On Common Adverbs In DuFu’s Poem

Research on adverbs is an important part in research on Chinesegrammar and vocabulary. Due to the complexity of adverbs, research on adverbs is notdeep enough. In such situation, without doubt, a dynastic research on adverbs issignificant in doing research on adverbs. In the essay, research is conducted on DuFu’spoem to demonstrate the main use of adverbs in his poem, therefore showing theoriginal use of adverbs in Tang Dynasty in the hope that the Chinese ancient adverbsand times characteristics can be understood as much as possible to lay a solidfoundation for the present research on Chinese adverbs.On the basis of including almost all the adverbs in DuFu’s poem. synchronicallyand diachronically, semantic structure analysis is adopted in the research of the frequentadverbs used in DuFu’s poem. Covered in the essay are153adverbs, which can bedivided into the following types: frequency adverbs(17), adverbs of degree(28), adverbsof time(37), adverbs of scope(20), negative adverbs(10), adverbs of mood(12), modaladverbs(29), among which14adverbs are picked out to be analyzed semantically,namely, geng、du、shang、hai、jiang、ban、dong、zhi、fen、fu、ge、pin、jin、yi.In the research of the adverbs in DuFu’s poem, we can find some rules andfeatures of usage of adverbs in his poem. To start with, his skillful use of adverbs isdemonstrated in the following ways. Firstly, a large number of adverbs are used in hispoem; secondly, the meaning of one adverb can diversified in different situations;thirdly, the same meaning can be expressed by different words. What’s more, theChinese function words are essential. Moreover, one-syllable adverbs are used moreoften so that it can be concluded that words of two syllables are not formally used.Fourthly, the system of adverbs in DuFu’s poem is complete, compared with adverbsnowadays. Finally, the system of DuFu’s adverbs is stable for most of his adverbs areused continuously nowadays.The research on DuFu’s adverbs can not only promote the research of DuFu’s poem,but also improve the research of Chinese adverbs at the same time.
