The basic precondition of studying Confucian ideology is to probe intothe origin of Confucianism. The Confucian School, whose representative is Confucius, had dominated the thinking of Chinese for a long period historically, and had apenetrative influence on all parts of social life to China. However, the most fundamentalquestions about the origin and root of Confucianism haven’t yet reached finalconclusions so far. This thesis formulates the origin of Confucianism at length from theperspectives of etymology, historiography and the history of thought. Simultaneously, before delimits the two categories Confucianism and Confucian Tactics anew, it alsorearranges the two terms based on history; thus it reveals the dialectical relationshipaccording to Chinese theory of noumenon-presentation-theory and practice, betweenthe two categories. One of the theoretical foundations of Confucian Thoughts is theconsciousness of subjects of morality, and its essence can be “internalized as cultivationand externalized as governance”, while the linking point of the internal and the externalis intellectual cultivation. Dong Zhongshu, one of the most significant Confucianists inHan Dynasty of Wudi Emperor, created the Neo-Confucianism, which is integrated withethics of Pre-Qin Confucianism and the considerably pervasive theories of Yin-yangand Five Elements. Dong just used the theories of five elements, and subjects ofmorality whose elementary point is to cultivate intellectually to reach the goal of“keeping families in order, governing the state effectively and bringing the peace to theworld”, as his core conception; then he put forward plenty of political principles, suchas “Great National Unity”,“interaction between man and nature”,“imperialConfucianism”, etc. Dong exactly put the intellectual cultivation into the realisticpractice. Although Dong’s amendment of Confucianism was not completely right, it truly reflected the key spirits of Confucianism-apply the Confucian Principle intopractice, solve the living issues, and advance Confucianism when used.Today Confucianism is faced up to the modernization that is being constructed.Compared to Dong’s epoch, today’s Confucianism is confronted with more challenges;however, there exists one highly common situation-take resolving the practical issuesinto account, explain Confucian spirits based on Confucian Classics, and realize thebenevolent rules and peace of the world. The author tries his best to give some newviewpoints of the modernizing Confucianism when it is being applied into practice onhis thesis.
