With the deepening of China’s reform and opening up, a large number of foreigngoods are imported into China. As people’s living standards have greatly improvedand it is human nature to pursue beauty, people pay more and more attention to theirappearance and cosmetics become one of the consumption hot spots. In2013, theauthor spent seven weeks on translation practice in the company and participated intranslating product specifications from Zepter International. This thesis mainly statesthe translation process.Translation of cosmetics instructions is categorized into pragmatic translationwhose main purpose is to convey information and maintain the communicative effectof source texts. Reception Aesthetics is the theoretical foundation of this thesis.Reception Aesthetics puts emphasis on the readers and puts forward that therealization of works lies in the process of readers’ comprehension and reception.There are four chapters in this thesis. The first chapter describes the background,relevant research literature, research significance and the structure and main points ofthe paper. The second chapter introduces the the project source, the objectives andrequirements of the project and the translation procedures. The third chapter, which isthe most important one, states the Reception Aesthetics and discusses the applicationof the theory in the translating and proofreading of the project and some translationtechniques for the cosmetics instructions. The last chapter summarizes the newfindings and the deficiency of this thesis.This thesis aims to enlighten the new hands in the translation of cosmeticsinstructions and to help them improve the quality of translation.
