The booming of tourism industry plays an important role in the development of a country’s economy. As the "Silk Road Economic Belt" development strategy is put forward, congenital advantage and international influence of the Silk Road tourism resources has created an important opportunity for the development of Shaanxi tourist industry. Being one of the provinces rich in tourism resources in China and the beginning of "Silk Road Economic Belt", Shaanxi attracts tens of thousands of foreign tourists to come for sightseeing. In order to provide information for more foreign tourists and stimulate their interest in Shaanxi, a lot of Chinese tourism materials need to be translated into English. Therefore, tourism text translation, which is one of the most direct means to promote tourism resources, is becoming an important issue worthy of our study.Aiming to find out effective translation strategies and improve Shaanxi tourism text translation quality, the thesis makes explorations on the translation of tourism introduction texts(TITs) of Tang Paradise from a new theoretical perspective. The thesis begins with a brief statement of research background and significance, then analyzes writings about tourism text research in China and abroad, and summarizes the breakthrough point of the research. Different from the previous study scopes, the author points out Reception Aesthetics can provide guidance for tourism text translation, which is a new perspective for the research of tourism text translation and totally different from the previous study scopes. Tourism text is the first-hand information about tourist attractions for foreign tourists, who often possess their own "horizon of expectation" of tourist attractions, while the core of the Reception Aesthetics Theory is to explore how to realize "horizon of expectation" and "horizon fusion" of target readers. Tourism text translation is a type of translation focused on foreign visitors, the target readers, which is consistent with the feature of Reception Aesthetics Theory. Tourism introduction text(TIT) is one of the specific types of tourism texts. In view of this, the thesis chooses the C-E translated introduction texts of Tang Paradise in Xi’an, one of the 5A level scenic spots in Shaanxi, as the research object based on Reception Aesthetics Theory, aiming to publicize Shaanxi rich tourism resources and to improve the image of Xi’an as an international metropolis. After discussing the problems in the translation of TITs of Tang Paradise, the author focuses on discussing the enlightenment of Reception Aesthetics Theory on tourism text translation and the feasibility to achieve "horizon fusion" between tourism texts and target readers. The author puts forward that translators should adhere to foreign tourists and Chinese culture as the center in the process of tourism text translation and give full consideration to foreign tourists’ aesthetic experience to meet their expected visions. To achieve this, translators should shorten the aesthetic distance between tourism texts and target readers by adjusting the structure of the translated texts and information so as to cater to the taste of target readers and their language habits. On the other hand, translators should manage to broaden foreign tourists’ existing expectation horizon by adopting various translation strategies to deal with the information rich in Chinese culture, helping foreign tourists get a better understanding of Chinese culture. Based on the principles, the thesis makes a new attempt in techniques of translating tourism texts and provides some specific practical strategies for the C-E translation of tourism texts, such as analogy, omission, adaptation, transliteration and amplification, which can stimulate foreign tourists, the target readers’ aesthetic experience effectively. The thesis attempts to explore the effective techniques for the translation of tourism texts from the perspective of Reception Aesthetics, aiming to provide a better theoretical basis for reader-centered translation of tourism texts and improve the quality of tourism text translation in Shaanxi. It is sincerely hoped that the thesis would arouse more attention to the research in this field and act a reference for the research on the tourism text translation.
