Study On Navy Of Eight Banners In Northeast China During Qing Dynasty

Qing Dynasty is the last feudal dynasty in China, its state systems mostly followsMing Dynasty’s in the early stage. As a regime powered by minority, only its uniquemilitary system is different from the others, and the Navy of Eight Banners in NortheastChina is the typical representative. So studying on Navy of Eight Banners in NortheastChina is contributed to deeply understand and acquaint the military system and nationaldefense policy of Qing Dynasty. Based on the previous studies, this paper focuses on itsestablishment, arms and soldiers, as well as its important role for national defense of theNavy of Eight Banners in Northeast China. Also, this paper points out that the Navy ofEight Banners comes from the Eight Banners system of Qing Dynasty, and it has animportant impact on the defense system in Northeast China. Furthermore, this papermakes it clear that the Navy of Eight Banners plays a positive role to perfect the borderand coastal defense in Northeast China. There are six chapters in this paper containingintroduction, conclusion and references as well as the body of this paper which consistsof three chapters.The first chapter introduces the Eight Banners system and its navy. Firstly, theestablishment of the Eight Banners system is described. Then, its development processand important role are pointed out. Especially, the analysis is made to introduce thechanges of the Eight Banners system in the new development stage, which lays afoundation for the establishment of the Navy. In the end, the relationship between theEight Banners system and the Navy of Eight Banners is discussed.The second chapter focuses on the Navy of Eight Banners in Northeast China,gives the clue of the establishment and development of the Navy of Eight Banners in Northeast China. And the background of the Navy of Eight Banners is clarified, and itsmilitary facilities, training, and soldiers are described in detail.The third chapter summarizes the historical role of the Navy of Eight Banners inNortheast China, and makes clear its position in the garrison and defense system of theEight Banners in Northeast China, elaborates its establishment not only having aprofound impact on the border layout, but also defending the frontier as well asdeveloping and managing the water transportation in Northeast China.Based on the research of the existing literatures such as history, archives, localrecords and other relevant information about the Navy of Eight Banners in NortheastChina, this paper uses history and literature research methods to give the comprehensivedescription of the development process, analyze and summarize the historical role of theNavy of Eight Banners.
