The aesthetic prevalence in Southern Dynasties cultivated itsemotional taste, and the Palace poetry pushed it into the extreme. Palace Poetry waspopular from the Liang to the early Tang dynasty, famous for its new entertainingand erotic theme and Gang Xiao was the main representative. The unique culturalatmosphere at that time gave rise to the development and flourish of this new poemgenre. Through the Southern Dynasties, the thought of Metaphysics and Buddhisminfluenced each other and stimulated the generation of human consciousness.Therefore, Palace poets began to pursue aesthetic sense of self-transcendence, andthey maintained individual self-improvement, longing to meet natural temperamentand to pursue spiritual freedom. In this process, the expression of emotionalliberation was evoked and the unique beauty of Palace poetry was createdsimultaneously.Palace poems, as a manifestation of aesthetic sensibility in SouthernDynasties, instead of direct expression, they were polished and revealed the subtleand elegant aesthetic pursuit of instinctive desire which have always affected thecreation of Palace poetry and laid the theoretical foundation of “eroticism” for thePalace poems. Dominated by this theory, Palace poems focused on the descriptionof the female beauty, mainly characterized by their brilliant style, the likeness inform and highlighted the idea of suit both the refined and popular people. Theinheritance and innovation of the idea of “sadness as beauty”, constituted the PalacePoetry’s rhythm, which was produced under the influence of patriarchal aestheticsand the transformation of pain. Specifically speaking, the image of the previousgeneration of women was the aesthetic origins; Boudoir complaint, Palace blameand abandoned women became the aesthetic object of “sadness”; The subtlety andobscurity of Southern Palace Poetry were highly worshiped, and its metaphoricalexpression and beautified images enriched the aesthetic emotion of Palace poetry.Palace poets not only paid attention to the musical beauty of poems’ rhythm, the pursuit of poetry form, but also the visual beauty of them, all together creating theaesthetic art form with broad aesthetic mood and atmosphere.
