A Report On The Translation Of The Colour Out Of Space

In recent years, with the introduction of Cthulhu Mythos, more and more readers arefocusing on this filed. I choose the representative work of the American novelist Howard PhillipsLovecraft--The Colour Out of Space as the source text and write translation report according tomy translation. On the basis of an analysis and summary on general features of horror fictions,this report explored the use of literal and free translation in horror fiction translation and methodsof handling special words and sentences. This translation report tries to further introduce thishorror fiction mythology system with unique charms to Chinese readers.This report is divided into five parts. The first part generalizes the source and content oftranslation text. The second part describes detailed translation process, consisting of preparation，translation and proofreading. The third part is about translation analysis based on theories，discussing the characteristics of horror fiction and exploring the use of literal and free translationin horror fiction translation and methods of handling special words and sentences. The fourthpart is the reflection on translation, including some thinking and expectation to online translation.The fifth part is the conclusion of this report.
