William Faulkner is one of the greatest western modem novelists. He devotes to research the skills of novel all his life. Nobody can replace his state; it owing to his researching in the field of novel Artistry. The Sound and the Fury is the most famous novel of William Faulkner. This is a novel which is full of narrative features. It is also an important novel for Faulkner’s researchers. So there are so many research works about The Sound and the Fury at home and the abroad. The most of studies of this novel mainly focus on Faulkner’s writing skills, such as stream of consciousness, characters, themes, mythos-archetypical and so on, and researchers seldom pay attention to the madness narrative in this novel.Madness narrative is one of a long-standing narrative in western literature, it has strong text expressive force and the profound meaning.The previous three part of the sound and the fury are idiot narrative, suicide narrative and paranoid narrative. In Beniy’s part, Faulkner given the madman chance to pour out their poor situation, but Benjy’s mind is flooded with confused and fragmentary memories. In his narration, we can find that madman is eager for love and care. In Quentin’s part, writer show us not only Quentin’s mental process but also examine the reason of becoming a madman. Take Quentin for example, it let us remind of the spiritual dilemma of modern people after the twice World War. In Jason’s part, Faulkner created a paranoid. His narration is full of extreme hate and obvious subjective.Madness narrative give text the unique narrative effect. From the Beniy’s part to Quentin’s part and Jason’s part, the whole story take on before reader’s eyes. The narrative processing give reader a shock, then they lost themselves in deep thought. This is the charming of The Sound and the Fury, also the charming of madness narrative.
