It has been a century since the Western chorus music came to China. In the past100years, this artistic form combined with Chinese traditional art forms and hence has yielded a great amount of chorus art pieces, including chorus of Chinese classic poems. Due to the pattern and characteristics of Chinese poems, many composers make coordination between music and poems. Therefore, when rehearsing this kind of music, the timber and pronunciation need special attention while conductors should attach more focus on their body language.Chen Yi’s mixed chorus without accompany "A palm tree" was based on a masterpiece of Song’s poetess, Li Qingzhao. The combination of realism and artistic expression fully expresses the traditional and profound conception. The composer mainly used a chanting tone which is common in traditional Chinese music---a sense of realism, while adding modern composing techniques to describe the internal world of the protagonists and enlarge the background---a method of artistic expression. In this paper, the author tried to analyze the structure, characteristics, singing approach and conducting methods from the perspective of chorus conduction. The author hopes that this paper can serve as a conclusion of her own summary of the last period’s study and can shed some light on this perspective.
