The composer Yao Henglu, born in a musical family, was really fond ofmusic in his childhood, and finally becomes a Chinese famous composer andmusic theorist through years of unremitting efforts and persistent pursuit ofmusic. Professor Yao Henglu has written a large number of outstanding worksof piano music which are closely linked with Chinese folk music culture andnational traditions. He fully draws on the traditional western compositiontechniques and combines it with Chinese folk music elements, so that hiscreations are filled with a strong Chinese Nationalization Style. Yao Henglu’sworks promote the development of Chinese piano music, lay the foundationfor the research of Chinese piano music, and are of great significance in thehistory of Chinese piano music.The piano suite "Impression on Yanbei" is written by Yao Henglu in1981, which was published in a magazine named "Music creation" in the80’s.It consists of5distinct personality fine tunes, expressing Yao Henglu’sfeelings of the experience and life in Shanxi when he was young and hisefforts to exploring folk music configuration by multi parts. Each song alltakes the Yanbei folk or palylet as its theme and is redesigned and extended,in order to showing five pieces of Chinese painting that contains differentcontents and rich local customs and practices. The piano suite "Impression onYanbei" is a professional music works with characteristics of time andChinese style, which overall is long, but each capital of it is short. There havebeen many scholars conducted in-depth analysis of the form and harmony ofthe piano suite "Impression on Yanbei" and found that the Shanxi regionalmusic is a typical inland traditional one represented by the Han, and itssound structure also reflects the features of the organic integration of theCentral Plains culture and foreign culture. This paper selects "Impression on Yanbei" as the research object to explore the potential artistic characteristicsof Shanx.The paper adopts four kinds of research methods, including literatureresearch, observation and analysis, interview investigation and classification,contains a detailed analysis of the music style and creation of piano suite"Impression on Yanbei" access to a large amount of relevant literature, andespecially through interviewing Professor Yao Henglu directly, collects thefirst hand data assisting in summing up Yao Henglu’s early writing style andproposing a rational suggestion in performing.In the course of the study, the author not only analyzes works’ artcharacteristics, but also considers about Shanxi folk songs and small operabrand. The study connects main lines of the original ecology, artistic creationand potential performance together and discusses how to play the artisticcharm, so as to intuitively and comprehensively learning a series ofcharacteristics the history, culture and status of Shanxi local music.This article aims at studying Yao Henglu’s piano creations in four aspects,including the relation between the piano suite "Impression on Yanbei" andregional folk culture in Shanxi, its creation background, music ontologyanalysis and "Impression on Yanbei" in piano teaching.
