With deepening international academical exchanges, great dispute has been evoked about translation of academical texts. In order to have a better understanding of the postcolonial theories and its effects on translation field, the present author chose the third chapter of the great academical work The Location of Culture written by Homi K. Bhabha as translation material to introduce power differential and conflicts behind translation work under circumstance of postcolonial discourse. In terms of China who suffered from the same colonization in the past century, it is of great significance to introduce postcolonial theories so as to reflect our own culture and translation history. During the process of translating practices, it brings a big challenge to the author due to Bhabha’s distinctive language style and obscure words. In order to strengthen the readability and accuracy of translation, the present author adopts postcolonial translating criticism as guiding, with emphasis on solving difficult long sentences and terms through domestication, foreignization and hybridization.This paper are divided into three parts. The first part is the introduction to the original text and its author. The second part introduces the postcolonial theory, discusses the postcolonial turn in translation, the influence of power imbalance guided by the postcolonial theory and emphasis the importance of constructing our own cultural identity. In the rest part, this report makes several case studies through translating techniques. Finally she claims difficult long sentences and terms in the original text, pointing out that translating theories play inevitable role in translation practices. |
