Study found that people construct life stories to provide integrated and purposeto themselves. Narrative construction of self-identity development research study thefact that how the dynamic construction and reconstruction of “I” affects “me”.Itprovides an efficient way to investigate the formation mechanism of self-identity. Infact college students have unique narrative characteristics. They are experiencing thecritical period of self-identity development. Narrative characteristics of Chinesecollege students has a distinct culture feature. We took McAdams’ narrativeframework (1993), assisted by the self identity status questionnaire (Zhang,2000),recruited68college students in school,59(17-27) was included in the final statistics.The purpose of this study is to examine(1) The distribution of college students’self identity state (2) the whole narrative characteristics of college students in China(meaning making level, the types of events, important others, future plans).(3) thenarrative characteristics of different kinds of self-identity of college students.The results of the study:(1)The development of college students’self identity isat a lower stage.(2)The narrative characteristics of university students in China:①significant difference exists among different gender of college students’ meaningmaking level, girls meaning making level is higher than boys.②Achievement andrelationships events is a major event type narrative of college students. Autonomy andmortality is the minor event type. Boys’the main narrative event type is achievementevents, girls are relationships events. In peak and turning point girls’ meaning makinglevel is higher than boys.③F amily members are the mainsignificant others.④Medium-term plan is the main future plan of college students in China.(3) Differentself identity status college students’ narrative features:①the meanig making level ofA status is higer than D-M status②A, M and Fstatus’ main event type isachievement events. A-F and D-M’s main event type is relationships events.③familymembers are the main types of significant others.④F and Mstatus’ main future planis medium-term plan, And A-F’s main future plan is long-term plan.
