Shanghai Area Graduate Preparation Of Professional Identity Questionnaire And Related Research

As the postgraduates are trained to be the advanced professionals in the immediate future, the success of their professional study will be conducive to the development of China as well as themselves. In order to enthusiastically devote themselves to the enduring study, postgraduates should keep high-level major identity. This research aims to provide a valid and reliable measurement on postgraduate's major identity, and further, to study the relationship between major identity and career decision-making difficulties.This study developed the questionnaire of postgraduate's major identity, which includes four dimensions : (1)Sense of major value;(2) Outlook on major study; (3) Devoting behavior; (4) Aim &Plan. Through confirmatory factor analysis, it is proved to be an effective measurement with high reliability and validity.The sample in this study was composed of 406 postgraduates from universities in Shanghai city. The results yielded are as follows:1. On Sense of major value and Devoting behavior, the postgraduates of grade 1 and grade 3 score significantly higher than those of grade 2.2. On Sense of major value, Devoting behavior and Aim &Plan, the postgraduates with working experience score significantly higher than those without working experience.3. On Devoting behavior, the postgraduates who are majoring in science and engineering score higher than those majoring in arts.4. On Aim &Plan, the postgraduates choosing a new major score significantly higher than those choosing the same major as in undergraduate study.5. The postgraduates with coherent ego identity have higher-level major identity6. The postgraduates without coherent ego identity perceive more difficulties in career decision-making process.7. Major identity works as part of the mediator between ego identity and career decision-making difficulties.
