White lie is a kind of special social lies, which plays an important role when human beingstry to establish, maintain and strengthen social contact with peers. White lie is graduallylearned in the process of the development of the individual.3-6years old children are in acritical period of social development,therefore, the study about white lie’s development ofthis age, especially about the white lie behavior and motivation will help us to know howindividual learn to tell white lies in the early years of life. At the same time, the study of therelated factors affecting the development of white lie will make it clear how white lies relatedto other psychological ability and situational factors.This study examines the3-6years old children’w characteristics of white lies’behaviorand motivation, analyzes the relationships between empathy, false beliefs and white lie’sbehavior and motivation,discusses how different taking object affects children’s white liebehaviour and motivation. The study is divided into two parts:In the first part of the study,through experimental design in the4x3groups, use disappointed gift paradigm andchildren’s self-report, examines the age characteristics of children’s white lie behavior andmotivation. And examines how different talking objects affects children’s white lie behaviorand motivation.The second part of the study try to figure out empathy and false belief’srelationship with children’s white lie behavior and motivation. Based on this purpose, we useempathy continuum tools to investigate the development of children’s empathy. Useunexpected location and task to check out children’s level of development of false beliefs.The results showed that:(1) Except aged3and6years, other age white lie behavior doesnot exist significant age differences.(2) There is significant positive correlation in white liebehavior,empathy and level of false belief. The score of different talking objects has asignificant impact white lie behavior.(3) There is significant age differences between the typeof behavior motivation. The older the children are,the more of them show prossocialmotivation.(4)3-6years old children’s white lie behavior motivation types associated withempathy, level of false belief is significant, the higher empathy and the level of false beliefscores is, the more the number of prosocial motivation appears.;Different talking object’simpact on children’s white lie behavior motivation is not significant.(5)3-6years oldchildren’s empathy and level of false belief scores a significant age difference.
