Since the foundation of new China, art education of China has had a development in an all-round way. A large number of students from Xinjiang have been enrolled in higher education institutes such as Central Academy of Fine Arts, Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts. Most of them went back to Xinjiang after finishing school and worked in the literary and artistic field in1960s. In the meanwhile, some artist turn their specialty into other field, but some still stick to the field of art. Although it is hard to judge their achievements, we try to understand their process of creation by case studies and witness development of Xinjiang modern arts. It is also a window to see Chinese modern oil painting.Amman-Abzalbek-Mukhannov went to Central Academy of Fine Arts(CAFA) in1958. He joined Luogongliu studio to study oil painting. After graduation, He went back to Xinjiang. He has been an creative artist and art educator since1963. This thesis carries on a study about Amman-Abzalbek-Mukhannov from three aspects which is based on interview and case survey. First, we will introduce Amman’s school experiences in his youth, especially at the period of CAFA. Second, we outline his artistic work after his return to Xinjiang into three stages:(a).1963-1967realistic approach with national painting language;(b).1967-1978propositional painting;(c)1979-now, formative period of idea and style. Third, looking back the process of Amman’s works, although his style differs in each stage,it shows us more unified feature as a whole. In the process of Xinjiang oil painting, Amman choose Kazakh traditional style as the core theme of his painting with an open view. More specifically, Russian art of painting is skeleton of his art work. Color idea and means of artistic expression of French impressionism is the skin of his artistic work. The spirits of Kazakh art is the blood of his artistic work. The study of his individual style should be consistently continuing under the20th background of Chinese oil painting, especially under the background of development of Xinjiang oil painting.
