This is a practice report of the Chinese translation of chapters fifteen and sixteen ofan English novel A Trip to the Stars. On the basis of Catford’s theory of translationshifts, the report explores various phenomena of translation shifts with examples fromthe two chapters. It includes four parts: the first part gives a description of thetranslation task, including a brief introduction to the novel’s author, contents, featuresand translation difficulties; part two reviews the connotation of Catford’s theory oftranslation shifts; part three is the key part of this report; it lists and analyzes levelshifts, category shifts and rhetoric shifts in translation; part four is the reflection ofthis translation practice. Translation shifts should convey the source texts’ meaningand style faithfully and fluently. |
