The thesis makes an analysis of the translating of The App Generation:How Today’s Youth Navigate Identity, Intimacy and Imagination in a Digital World co-authored by Howard Gardner and Katie Davis in the light of J.C. Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory, mainly focusing on the level shifts and category shifts that occurred in the process of translation. However, those two types of translation shifts are both shifts on linguistic level. To achieve translation equivalence, non-linguistic elements, especially cultural shift, should be taken into consideration. Therefore, cultural shift is added for an objective and dialectical understanding of the Theory of Translation Shifts in the hope that it can be put into practice effectively.
