People in the long-term production and life practice, have formed their own a set ofspecific regional characteristics and specific national belief system. Folk belief is one ofthe village life behavior law, contains the local cultural logic. Folk belief has long beenintegrated into the subconscious of the general public. Especially in the countryside, folkbelief has been deeply people’s daily life practice.This article is based on social action research perspectives, and treats the villagers’belief activities as social action to research. This article tries to explore how an ordinaryfarm converts potential faith of the heart to faith entity--the fox temple. This paperanalyzes the background information of the fox spirit event, including Matun villagenatural environment, cultural field, power field and so on, with the help of Bourdieu’sfield, habitus and strategy theory, deeply explore how the fox spirit temple successfullycompleted.This article uses the theory of folklore, history, sociology, anthropology, psychologyand other disciplines, given priority to the field survey data, through the case study tounderstand the most real state of folk beliefs. The case of this paper is Wang Baolin metfox spirit and built fox spirit temple. Wang Baolin, a75-year-old farmer, after he conflictwith a shepherd, he was very angry, having idea to kill the shepherd. After fox spirittouched, the mood calm down. Back home, the old man, in accordance with the fox spiritentrust to build temple. I personally do fieldwork, survey the whole event process. Fromthe angle of the actors, pay attention to initiative and analyze of action background,content, mode, result etc. The foothold of this paper is legitimacy, exploring why WangBaolin met fox spirit, what is his stick to build fox spirit temple and the success of thefox temple built because of what legitimacy.This article includes seven parts--five chapters, introduction and conclusion. Theintroduction part tells the purpose of the selected topic and research value, combsresearch situation about the folk belief and the legitimacy of faith, introduces the theoryused in this paper and the main research methods, At last, tells the innovation andinadequate of this article.The first chapter mainly introduces Matun village, including the natural geographical environment, people’s daily living way, the history of ancestors, the beliefsand customs of the local. This chapter mainly introduces the background of the fox spiritevent. Case study can not be isolated, and should use the history, development point ofview, putting the case into the background to study. Cultural field shapes people’s habit.Specific field groups have a similar way of thinking and behavior.The second chapter introduces Matun village social power structure. According toWeber’s theory of authority, Matun village has three big authorities. They are traditionalauthority, miraculous authority and hierarchical authority. Different power holds differentcapital, they have their own logic.The third chapter introduces Wang Baolin, the hero of the fox spirit event, includingWang Baolin’s identity, personal experiences and belief. Many factors shape the actor’saction model. The actor’s identity, status, gender, occupation, etc affect masteringresources. The actor’s IQ, EQ and other abilities influence actor’s strategies.The fourth chapter tells the whole case. First of all, introduce the original fox spirittemple. Then tell what had happened when Wang Banlin met fox spirit and how WangBaolin built the temple. Finally, I analyze the coincidence and mystery about the event.Fox spirit event is not fantastic; it has its own necessity and contingency to happen.The fifth chapter analysis the factors that fox spirit temple successfully built. Thereconstruction of the fox spirit temple is actually the reproduction of folk beliefs; behindit is a combination of multiple factors. At first,the specific geographic environment andhistory gestate Matun village tradition of folk beliefs. The traditional culture field buildsthe people’s thinking habit and behavior habit. People easy to accept the sudden event offox spirit would like to support the initiative of rebuilding the fox spirit temple. Thesecond is the role of actor. Wang Baolin is the authority of the elders in the family. He isthe typical representative of the traditional authority. The villagers of Matun generallyapproval and trust the personal authority of Wang Baolin. The personal authority inMatun village has credibility. So when Wang Baolin advocates rebuilding temple, peoplegenerally support. And Wang Baolin’s personal ability is very strong. He is good at usingflexible strategy, in order to achieve the desired purpose. The last factor is the legitimacyof the fox spirit own existence. Fox spirit faith has always been in Matun village, thenotion of fox spirit faith fits the needs of people. In addition, the powerful explanation function and multidimensional adjustment function of folk beliefs is practical. It is ofgreat significance that can meet people’s need for cognition, adjust emotions andmaintain social stability.The last part mainly stressed the need to dialectical view of folk belief. The folkbelief has legitimacy, also have illegal factors. We should actively use and guide the legalfactors, and warn illegal factors. The government should take appropriate prevention andintervention. And pay attention that legitimacy and illegitimacy is not absolute, more isnot immutable and frozen. Study on the folk belief phenomenon, should be carried out inspecific historical background and social structure, and consider in a comprehensive way.
